JIV Next Steps for Improving the JIV forms and related aspect of the JIV process

Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) is a visit to oil spill sites usually carried out within two weeks of an onshore oil spill in Nigeria. It is designed to assess the cause of the spill, the amount spilled and the scale and extent of damage and environmental impact. JIVs are usually attended by a cross representation of oil companies, regulatory agencies and communities.

This sevenfold set of guidelines details the steps that need to be taken in order to improve the JIV process. The steps focus on collective understanding of the roles and responsibilities of each party, as well as combining and standardising all forms of collecting data on oil spills.
