SDN Wins Community Development and Nature Conservation Award

On Thursday 3rd September, 2015 at the Nigerian Institute for International Affairs in Lagos, the Country Director of Stakeholder Democracy Network, Inemo Samiama received “The 2015 Community Development and Nature Conservation Award” from the management team of The Environment Outreach Magazine.

On Thursday 3rd September, 2015 at the Nigerian Institute for International Affairs in Lagos, the Country Director of Stakeholder Democracy Network, Inemo Samiama received “The 2015 Community Development and Nature Conservation Award” from the management team of The Environment Outreach Magazine.

In nominating SDN for the award, the Environment Outreach Magazine team commended SDN for the work it has been doing over the years for Nigeria through well-articulated environmental lectures, talks, articles and publications, programs and projects that have increased awareness of environmental issues in the Niger Delta.

Furthermore, it was noted that through the modest achievements of SDN in promoting environment and community development issues through their various initiatives indeed stands the organisation as a veritable agent of change in Nigerian society worthy of recognition. Accordingly, they claimed that SDN’s activities in the oil and gas sector and the commitment they’ve we’ve shown in ensuring a better deal for our local people since their creation have indeed not gone unnoticed.

The award ceremony was attended by persons from academia; The organised private sector; Professionals of various fields; Government officials; Representatives of various public institutions; Environmentalists; Traditional rulers and Members of the general public. The theme of the lecture titled “Redefining Nigeria’s Environmental Agenda in the Oil and Gas Industry” was delivered by eminent Environmentalist, Professor Babajide Ibitayo Alo. Also present were the director NESREA and the President of the Nigerian Environmental Society.

Receiving the award, Mr Inemo Samiama expressed his delight and appreciation to the organisers of the event and the team from the Environment Outreach Magazine for recognising over 10 years of dedication and hard work in community development and environmental issues in the Niger Delta.

He assured the organisers that SDN will continue to intensify efforts to bring more awareness to the challenging and enormous environmental issues in the Niger Delta region, and will continue to work with all stakeholders to find collective solutions to clean up and remediate the degraded and polluted communities in the region.
