In this panel discussion (held on 06.10.2020), panelists explained how they, and their organisations, help civil society and communities affected by the oil and gas industry make use of transparency initiatives to enact changes on the ground in the Niger Delta.
Our panelists are at the forefront of working with data from transparency initiatives, transforming how much we know about payments to governments from extractive industries, and governments use that money.
The potential of recent transparency initiatives to community-led calls for development and accountability will be introduced via a case study following the money from the oil and gas industry in the Niger Delta, to the government ministry, NDDC, then the ministry’s spending on development projects within host communities—and finally, community auditing of those projects.
